August 27,2008

I went exploring in Our Space from the Fall issue 2008 Momentum (page 51) and started building a second life for me. I have MS and this can be a difficult choice for me.  I need some help a lot but Panther, Sydney and Kira won't help. The only thing they can do is let me know when it's 2:30 or so because they want to eat.  Panther, my black cat, just wants to be in between me and the computer screen.

Anyway, Second Life is interesting. For the most part it is free.  You can do things that cost money but I have stayed away from those.  You can find me by looking for Sal Luminos.  That's my avatar name. Today I found MS Society, specifically MS Pavillion. Next place I want to go is MS Island VUMC.

I will let you know how it goes...

Love is The Answer

I read the article "Love is The Answer" from the website http://www.todayscancersurvivors.com/blog/2010/01/30/learning-with-cancer.html and I know it is true. The author was very candid about her cancer and indicates she is still living her life as best as she can; even go the point of being silly with nieces and her twin sister.  It must be tough on the twin.

There is a special bond between twins so I hear.  Not being a twin of any kind and not having a sister I can only imagination the feeling between twins.  It is wonderful to hear the happiness in the written words of the author.  Such strength!!! Read the article yourself from the below listed website and see if you agree.

Superbowl

I was one of the millions of people watching the Superbowl yesterday afternoon.  Not a 100% of the game because I was working on articles but I did hear it 100%. I was for the underdog Saints and I was elated when they started coming back.  Patton had a determined expression at the introduction segment and I thought they would win with that expression but it didn't work.  New Orleans Saints begged to differ with Payton's expression.  Once Brees got the teams act together, the Saints weren't to be stopped.  First-timers is what drew me to them.  I have always liked football and the Pro games were better than the collegiate games.  That was a couple of decades ago; now I like them both.

I read that the owner of the Saints shared his suite box with two invited New Orleans nuns. They like football and one said she had been praying for 43 years for this to happen. She was quoted as saying "they've been good to us...”  It pays to have friends in high places or so it seems.  This is the day-after Super Bowl Sunday and commercials are being aired again and some were defensibly funny and there are those you could miss for a potty break.  All the ads with animals in them were on the top of my list.

Music on The Prairie

Music on the prairie by way of Molt, Montana is a great story to tell. I haven't been there but I would if I could!  On Saturday mornings, you would find the entire population in Molt plus visitors in one small cafe. The cafe seats 56 but additional people are standing in the hallway waiting.  Saturday mornings, from 9 to noon, the place is crowded with people wanting to hear to hear the music.
It was all started by a fella named Larry who had the idea the cafe could be the perfect spot to hold practices for his band, The Hogback Five. After the Hogs started practicing, other bands came out of the woodwork wanting to join in the practice sessions. People came from miles around and from every state in country plus 42 foreign countries (according to the guest book) and enjoyed the music on Saturday mornings.

Fran Urfer makes to die for pies for the cafe/grocery store on one side and the other side is for the hardware.  She and her husband, Jerry, remodeled the building in Molt and the Kepferle Mercantile was reopened. The setting of Molt sounds like to die for homestead environment with grasslands and mountains as far as the eye can see. Not knowing anything about Molt, I imagine winters are a bear to get through but the rest of the year is glorious.

Mutual Harmony

I read the article "Mutual Harmony" from the website http://www.praylivelove.com/blog/2010/02/01/mutual-harmony.html and was intrigue with what is means to the author. Since I don't believe the author was Ralph W. Emmerson, I think mutual harmony means peace all over the world, including Emmerson and Franklin and me.  We all want peace in our lives and world;  the author of this article mentioned respect and goodwill.  Hear, hear, that's a very good idea.  What does mutual harmony mean to you?  The Lord gives us peace as long as we downplay insecurities, racism, ecomonics, nationalism, and politcal radicalism.  I recommend you go to  the below listed website and see what you think.

New Pills Being Tested

New pills are being tested and these are pills being tested for MS.  I knew about the recently FDA-approved Ampyra and rushed right in to my neuro doc in hopes to get a script. I came way with 'instructions' for 1) a blood test to see what type of MS I have, 2) a recent MRI and 3) get a second opinion from Pill Hill. It was then I heard about these other two pills for MS. I found a statement when I searched the web for Ampyra that is was the first therapy that is taken orally. Now there are two more pills, fingolimod and cladribine! That's way good news... Well, my enthusiasm waned when I found out the insurance coverage.  We couldn't come close making the co-pay required plus I wouldn't be happy about going to Pill Hill for a second opinion.  It took everything out of me going to see my neurologist and Pill Hill wouldn't be any better.  Then there's the MRI.  I just cannot do all of that.  It maybe selfish on my part but nothing can change my disabilities.  I can live with what I got for as long as I need to.  My mom did it; so can I.
