I went exploring in Our Space from the Fall issue 2008 Momentum (page 51) and started building a second life for me. I have MS and this can be a difficult choice for me.  I need some help a lot but Panther, Sydney and Kira won't help. The only thing they can do is let me know when it's 2:30 or so because they want to eat.  Panther, my black cat, just wants to be in between me and the computer screen.

Anyway, Second Life is interesting. For the most part it is free.  You can do things that cost money but I have stayed away from those.  You can find me by looking for Sal Luminos.  That's my avatar name. Today I found MS Society, specifically MS Pavillion. Next place I want to go is MS Island VUMC.

I will let you know how it goes...

MS in focus

I have an article to share with you.  It’s an article in MS in focus which is from MS international federation in Cambridge, UK.  The article is about ataxia and tremors in MS.  I will be honest with you - my personal main focus is on ataxia.  I don’t know what it is so I am researching it for information. I finding out we all have experienced ataxia one time or another.  However, I didn’t call my “drunken” gait as ataxia.  In 1868 Jean-Martin Charcot indicated that the tremors and ataxia were different than those found with Parkinson patients.

Almost everyone with diagnosed multiple sclerosis have had moving coordination difficulties progress and yet we all know MS is not the same for every one.  People with ataxia lose control over their movements so they become less smooth. It becomes hard to start a movement and hard to stop that movement.  It becomes obvious when one wishes to use skilled movements of limbs.  How has your typing been since MS set in or how has your penmanship progressed through the start of MS to what it now?

Over the years, research studies showed that disability from ataxia in MS is related to damage to the cerebellum.  The network of the cerebellum and its connections is a widespread network encompassing the cerebellum, the spinal cord and other regions in the brain.  If MS damages any of these components is to be expected because these areas are easily damaged.  Symptoms of ataxia and tremor can cause much disability and remain the biggest challenge.

Senior Vacations

I read the article ‘Senior Vacations’ on www.retiredhappily.com/2009/04/02/senior-vacations.html and really like it. I especially like the header advertising. I liked how the article lays out the plan you can still have fun even as a senior! If you are married, plan the vacation as a couple and both can share the wonderful things they want to do.

Grab your grandkids for the trip of fun and adventure. Let them be part of the planning committee and enjoy the excitement of a real vacation with Grandma and Grandpa. I particularly like the Amtrak suggestion.  Traveling with the spouse opens a lot of romantic ventures by plane, car, or train.

Jane Geddes

I read the article on Jane Geddes on the below listed web site "http://www.golfkingblog.com/2008/12/28/jane-geddes.html. I liked how the article was written. I was told that Jane retired from golfing but didn't walk away from golf. Geddes retired at the end of 2003 season and retured to school at thee University of South Florida where she received a degree in criminology. She then went to Stetson University of Law to receive her law degree. She became Senior Director of Tournament Business Affairs of the LPGA. Later still, she was promoted to Vice-President of Competion. She is at home in Florida and I see she has never given up golf.

This is a great website and I really enjoyed it.

Romance or Work?

This is the fun part of my job.  I can write whatever I want and hope it has some meaning for you.  What is the success rate of MSer getting a new partner or keeping the partner you’ve had since the beginning for your travails with MS?  A little romance can do a wonderful thing for your feeling of wanted and self-worth.  Obviously my world is further learning about MS.  Nineteen eighty-four was the year I was diagnosed by the medical side of this equation.  I was having attacks prior to that year but only bruises and broken pinky finger on my left hand were evidence of something.  I finished college in 1981 (slow learner) left for Colorado to be with family

I’ve been hooked on PC’s every since the class Mom funded for me.  I guess I just like the sound of the keys clicking. Every job I have had required PC use and knowledge and so here I am; still typing but on my own laptop and my own computer.  At home.  I am alone during the day but use the phone to keep in touch with family and friends.  By the way, I moved back to Oregon to save my condo and find work.  The only job I found was a typing job through Kelly Services.  All this time I was searching for some romance.  After 10 years of aloneness, I met my husband through a blind date introduction.  We’ve been married now for 23 years.  Never thought that was possible for me but my hubby knew my situation and that didn’t faze him.

Where is Bo Bice From?

Bo Bice was born in Huntsville, Alabama in 1975 and evidently had a difficult childhood.  I read this article, “Where is Bo Bice From? on this website, (www.bestofamericanidol.com/blog/2009/05/10/where-is-bo-bice-from.html) and enjoyed reading the stats on Bo. It was a short summary of the life and times of an American Idol.  This is a good website if you want to get to know Bo and how he started in the music world.  It was an interesting website but I didn’t the feel of his music skills.  I got that knowledge while watching him perform. I like his music and know it considered southern rock smattered with rock, blues and Christian.
